What to clear before removing garage shelving
Empty each shelf and decide which bins stay before asking for shelf removal.
Sort the contents first
Use keep, remove and uncertain groups. The uncertain group protects tools, documents and family property from a rushed decision.
Check the unit
A free-standing rack differs from shelving fixed to a wall. Tell the provider how it is attached and whether it must be dismantled.
Map the load path
Note narrow gates, stairs and the distance to the truck. Do not move a heavy loaded shelf alone to prepare for an estimate.
Before the visit
List the number of units, their approximate size and any contents that will leave with them. Keep paint, fuel and pesticides separate from ordinary storage items.
